That&#8217;s what reading koans is like.<\/p>\n<p>So I love being in love more than loving and I love koans more than reading them.<\/p>\n<p>Case 261, Stop All Thoughts, is a treasure of a hilarious burn by the 6th Patriarch followed by a sarcastic bullshit koan by Huineng that outshines the original koan in authenticity and insight.<br \/>\n&#8211; case 261, Stop All Thoughts<\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Case 261 Stop All Thoughts<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Zen master Wolun said in a verse:<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Wolun has the ability<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">To effectively stop all thoughts.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">No circumstances stir his mind;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Day by da<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">y enlightenment grows.2<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">1.This verse is found the Ming edition of the Platform Sutra<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">of the Sixth Patriarch (T 48:358a).<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">2.Wolun\u2019s approach to meditation, as expressed in this<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">verse, was criticized in the \u201cEncounters\u201d chapter of the<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Platform Sutra of the<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Sixth Patriarch. The Sixth Patriarch<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">says, \u201cThis verse is not yet clear regarding the mind <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">ground.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">If one practices in accordance with it, one\u2019s bondage will<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">only increase.\u201d Huineng then says:<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Huineng has no skill, he doesn\u2019t cut off all thoughts.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">In th<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">e face of circumstances,<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Mind arises again and again;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">How can enlightenment grow?<\/span><\/div>\n<p>She who abandons ego becomes a function of God, no longer a servant.<\/p>\n<p>If someone is making a lot of poor decisions, ask yourself how long it will be until you bear the consequence of one of those decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes I bend fate and sometimes I don&#8217;t. Letting fate run free is the only way to get somewhere new.<\/p>\n<p>When you warm a book with your hands, you&#8217;re warming the fibers of a once living tree. You&#8217;re warming the fibers that grew from the earth there.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The truth comes out passionately,&#8217; he apologized to everyone.<\/p>\n<p>She realized that which she treasured was a burden of sorts. Find a spirit with good karma to intertwine with.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t care so much about time as I do movement. Anything other than movement is a label.<\/p>\n<p>A big part of breaking out of the mould means that you&#8217;re more vulnerable.
